Where do we start?! We named him 'Lucky' due to him being very lucky to be alive.
Lucky was a very successful racer in Ireland winning many thousands of pounds in prize money for his owner/trainer. During one of his races he broke his hock - he was off the track for a while until it had healed, then he was sold to England to continue racing.
As is often the case after a broken hock, Lucky was not as fast as he once was but continued racing at a lower level.
Once this owner/trainer no longer wanted Lucky he was sold again - this time to be used for stud duties - during this period they decided to give Lucky a trial run around a practice track.......and that resulted in poor Lucky braking his hock for a second time.
This is when we met Lucky for the first time......we were in the right place at just the right time for Lucky. We were there buying collars & leads from the Greyhound shop situated next to the practice track - so saw just what had happened to Lucky. After exchanging a few words with the group that had him, it soon became very clear where Lucky's next stop off was going to be so we took him off their hands there & then.
It has been a long recovery road for Lucky - because his hock had been broken twice, it was quite a mess & at one stage we didnt think we were going to be able to save his leg, but after surgery & lots of physiotherapy by us afterwards his leg was saved - its not perfect, but he gets about on it fine.
Lucky is such a lovely boy. He's so very affectionate & loving - he has to be the most affectionate dog we have ever had here at Castledon......and thats saying something!!
Lucky would prefer a home where he is the only pet, because he quite likes to have you all to himself!
This boy has certainly earnt his retirement - now he needs a lovely person/family to love him like he'll love you back.
